Ever since the premiere of the fourth campaign, recently appointed game master Brennan Lee Mulligan has kept fans guessing with extensive world-building, a diverse cast of heroes, and a thrilling plot showcasing divine entities, fiends, and dark forces increasing in influence within the urban setting.
Warning: Spoilers for the latest installment of this adventure lie ahead.
The Warrior Group Introduced
Episode 3 finished on a major cliffhanger and presented the initial group of characters who will branch out from the central cast to embark on their own adventure, apart from the other two tables.
This warrior group includes Teor Pridesire (brought to life by Travis Willingham), the agile character (Laura), the strong-willed figure (Whitney), the cleric (Sam Riegel), and Kattigan (Robbie Daymond).
Why Split the Party?
With an extensive roster, it was evident from the outset that having everyone at the same party would be unfeasible.
That’s why, the initial installments of the new season serve as an Prelude, weaving together the characters’ stories before branching into three distinct groups: Warriors, Planners, and Questers.
What Defines the Combat Party
Per the DM, the Soldiers table is for players who are drawn to a typically action-packed combat and conflict-driven gameplay experience where non-violent answers are rare.
Upon first impression, characters like the reluctant priest the cleric might appear mismatched, but the developments of the third episode make it clear why these specific adventurers are best suited for the warrior group.
Why They Must Go
For one thing, the team understands precisely where to head next after a intense first encounter with the enemy group.
A former ally of Thjazi Fang—whose demise initiated the narrative’s action—exploited the enemy for his own means, breaking into Thjazi’s hideout, striking the rogue, and swiping all the powerful objects to sell off.
The antagonist then settled his debts and escaped to a fortified location in Gormalay, Timmony, above the city, with Cyd Pridesire pursuing him.
Individual Reasons
Secondly, each character has a specific drive to exit the metropolitan area:
- Thimble, as Thjazi’s partner and trusted friend, seeks revenge.
- Kattigan has experience in Timmony and cautions that it is a dangerous environment.
- The strong character and The cleric, having resisted his family’s wishes to execute the target and instead saved him, have nowhere else to go.
- But, their position as key figures in the powerful family could enable the team access areas they usually can’t.
- Moreover, The grateful character swore a eternal obligation to The cleric for his rescue and will now accompany him wherever.
Fugitives
Finally, all of them are hunted by the rulers that control Dol-Makjar for a range of causes, making staying in the city no longer safe:
- The agile adventurer and The character are notorious outlaws.
- The warrior and Wicander betrayed the influential house and the legion of demons they are allied with.
- Teor is marked for death by House Halovar.
This results in them few options but to journey toward the remote area in pursuit of Casimir.
What’s Next?
According to episode three’s follow-up content, we discover that the warrior group will not appear in the upcoming installment, leaving the other eight participants to form the Explorers and Strategists tables.
Fans can look forward to discovering which characters will be where in Campaign 4’s final introductory chapter, released on next week.
